  1. Visit The Storage Neighbor Madison, AL location of your choice to purchase the high quality boxes and packing supplies you will need to protect your belongings.  Choosing quality boxes and packing supplies ensures that the items you pack will be properly protected throughout their stay in your Madison, AL storage unit.
  2. Label all boxes with a description of the items stored within. We suggest labeling more than one side and the top of each box.  If you are moving, consider labeling the box with the room it should be delivered to in your new home.
  3. Use large boxes for lighter, bulky items such as pillows and blankets.  Smaller boxes should be saved for books, dishes and other heavy items.

When stacking items in your Madison, AL storage unit, consider these tips:

  1. Stack like sized boxes together, this will keep them from tipping over inside your Madison, AL storage unit.
  2. Place labels facing out, so you can quickly and easily identify which box you need.
  3. Store boxes of heavy items closer to the floor and lighter items higher up. Heavier items are also better stored at the back of your Madison, AL storage unit.
  4. Don’t forget to leave an aisle in the center or along the sides of your Madison, AL storage unit so you can easily access all your items.

With these tips, and the friendly staff at The Storage Neighbor, your storage experience in Madison, AL should be a good one.  Please let us know what we can do to help!

What You Need to Know about Self Storage in Madison

Friday, December 18th, 2009

When the closets are full, and it seems there are boxes in every corner, it is time to investigate self storage in Madison.  Renting a self storage unit in Madison is easy to do, but finding the best self storage facility in Madison can be more difficult.

Here’s what you need to know when you are evaluating self storage facilities in Madison.

  • Look for a self storage facility in Madison that has gated entry with key code access.  This type of secure access allows the management team to track who comes in and out of their self storage facility in Madison.
  • Self storage facilities in Madison should rent on a month to month basis, giving you the flexibility to meet your specific storage needs.  Be sure to ask for available discounts if you plan a long term lease of your Madison self storage unit.
  • Consider whether you need an outdoor or indoor storage unit.  Indoor units typically are climate controlled offering protection from extreme temperatures.  For most, an outdoor self storage unit in Madison is perfectly acceptable.

Neighborhood Tidbit
Five Points Historic District

Five Points is Huntsville’s latest Historic Preservation District, established in 1999. Initially part of the 1892 East Huntsville Addition, it developed slowly over the course of a century. The neighborhood’s significance lies in its mixture and evolution of middle-class housing in 20th century Huntsville. The houses include Victorian homes, Bungalows that experienced great popularity in the 1920’s and 30’s, Cape Cods, which were then succeeded by the Ranch style, which was fashionable in the 50’s and 60’s. The East Huntsville Addition was the first true suburb in Huntsville, made feasible by the construction of a streetcar line, which allowed working people to live farther from jobs and shopping without owning an automobile. The neighborhood still retains its 19th century grid layout of broad, parallel streets, narrow but deep lots, and rear service alleys, which permit pedestrian-oriented streets.
